By using a small computer to control several general purpose deices, it is possible to duplicate the functions of a sophisticated test instrument. This can be accomplished at a cost less than a dedicated instrument and has the added benefit of allowing the user to configure the system for any number of tasks. The system described in this paper measures dB spl Leq. With the number of fine test instruments on the market today capable of this function, what is so special about one more device?
