The Accurate Prediction of the Speech Transmission Index (STI) of a Sound Reinforcement System by Means of a Computer Model Using the Ray-Tracing Techniques

Document Thumbnail

Through the application of the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the speech transmission index (STI) derived from the MTF, an accurate prediction of the degree of intelligibility (read STI) by means of ray tracing is possible. A computer model for that purpose has been developed. The input data for the computer program are, for example, the geometry of the room, the covering on the surrounding surfaces, and the number and specifications(s) of the transducer(s) used as sound sources. The output consists of a histogram with a number of the computed STI values, the ISO STI contours over the given listening places, and other relevant response parameters.
