Consumer Use Compact Cassette Digital Audio Recorder

Document Thumbnail

Stationary head type compact cassette digital audio recorder was developed. Because of its high track density, thin film head is employed. In order to increase linear recording density 2/4M channel coding is used. Considering error characteristics of recording channel using thin film head, powerful error correcting code which is named RSC-III code is developed and employed. It is a combination of the Reed-Solomon over GF(28) and the 16 bits CRC over GF(2). This paper describes the tape format, decoding method using Euclidean algorithm, and performance of its error correction.
