Overview of the RSC Tape Format for Stationary Head Type Digital Audio Recorder and Its Performance

Document Thumbnail

On the basis of characteristics of errors occurring in recording channel, a two-dimensional error correcting code is suitable for stationary head digital audio recorders. Among various two-dimensional code RSC code, a subclass of generalized products code has been applied for professional use digital audio recorder and has been used all over the world. Only results of numerical calculation on error correcting capability of the code and experimental data have been reported. This paper describes the data obtained from mass-produced recorders used in the field. Because data is interleaved when it is recorded, all errors occurred with 32 hours were 2-track errors. They were corrected by error correcting schemes since the RSC code employed has the capability of correcting the 2-track error.
