Linear Distortion of Non-Coincident Drivers

Document Thumbnail

The amplitude and group delay responses of a loudspeaker system with noncoincident drivers are computed and plotted. Conventional first, second, and third-order Butterworth crossover networks are investigated. Also second-order (2 x 6 dB/oct.) and fourth-order (2 x 12 dB/oct.) cascaded Butterworth crossover networks are included in the investigation. The driver's offsets of 0; 0, 125; 0, 25; 0, 5, and 1, 0 wavelength at the crossover frequency are chosen as parameters. All combinations of spacing and phasing of the drivers are taken into account. Conclusions are made for the relevance of the drivers offset correction.
