Ribbon type high-frequency loudspeakers have been proposed and tried for many years because of their extended high-frequency response resulting form the fact that the diaphragm is also the conductor. Early aluminum ribbon loudspeaker designs suffered from low sensitivity and low power handling capacity. Today with the availability of new high coercivity magnetic materials and our ability to manufacture beryllium ribbon, we were able to develop a new ribbon tweeter having a frequency range of 5 kHz to 120 kHz, a sensitivity of 97.5 dB/W/m, continuous power handling capacity of 50 watts, and a peak power handling capacity of 100 watts.
