8-Channel Digital Audio Mixer for Digital Mastering and Recording

Document Thumbnail

Authors have designed and developed an 8 channel digital audio mixer for digital mastering and recording. It consists of 4 units: 1) Signal processing unit, 2) Remote control unit, 3) 8-ch A/D unit, 4) 8-ch D/A unit. The Signal processing unit has low cut and high cut filters +4-band equalizer + emphasis/deemphasis equalizer for each channel and has two program outputs and two aux outputs. To maintain high quality signal resolution, the filter and equalizer section consists of 6 fourth-order digital filters whose coefficient word length is 24-bit and signal word length is 38-bit. The Remote control unit has the same appearance as that of analog mixer, enabling the fast and easy operation. Its communication line with the signal processing unit is IEEE-488 bus. The 8-ch A/D unit and 8-ch D/A unit are separate from each other and from the Signal processing unit in order to be able to set the A/D unit or D/A unit near analog sound sources or speakers etc., thus avoiding a long transmition of analog signals which may cause signal deterioration.
