Signal-to-Noise Ratio Requirement for Digital Transmission Systems

Document Thumbnail

The references are the peak instantaneous sound-pressure levels of sound reproduction preferred by 20 observers and the thresholds of perceptibility for special idle channel noises of PCM devices. The signal-to-noise ratio is determined measuring the corresponding peak instantaneous program levels and noise levels (according to CCIR-Rec. 468-3). Loudspeaker and headphone reproduction are considered. Concerning loudspeaker reproduction 75 dB, concerning headphone reproduction 80 dB signal-to-noise ratio is required.
