DASH and the Standardization of Digital Audio

Document Thumbnail

An adequate recording format for standardization must ensure reliable operation in practical applications, but also allow digital audio tape recorders to fit harmoniously into existing and future production systems. The conflicting aspects of operational requirements in recording and postproduction, video standards, time code, synchronization, transmission, and compatibility with the AES/EBU interface must be accommodated. Finally, future developments must be anticipated and can be influenced by a clear and open-ended format. This paper gives a survey of the systems aspects of the DASH format and illustrates to what extent it supports the efforts towards an integrated digital audio/video production system.
