A piezoelectric headphone which accepts electrical digital signals and directly converts the received bits into acoustic analog output has been developed. The piezoelectric transducer is composed of a piezoelectric polymer element and an acoustic system which functions as a desampling acoustic filter for the 8-bit PCM signals. It has been confirmed by measuring and hearing tests that digital-to-analog conversion by the piezoelectric transducer can result in acceptable sound quality.
