In this paper we describe characteristics of the two kinds of multitrack thin film heads for the 48-channel digital audio tape recorder. We achieved a narrow guard bandwidth of 16µm by using a new recording head and a pulse train recording technique. The Yoke Type Magneto-Resistive Head permits replays of not only high density digital recording signals but also high fidelity analog signals by through those of the alternating current biasing method of MRH.
