A new one chip digital signal processing large-scale-integrated circuit (LSI) has been developed for compact disc (CD) players, which has the following functions: demodulation of the eight-to-fourteen modulation (EFM) signal, synchronization with the input EFM signal and detection of the frequency, demodulation of subcode and decoding cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code, decoding of cross-interleaved Reed-Solomon code (CIRC), error concealment by interpolation, and spindle motor servo. Using a new error correction algorithm and new Galois field computer architecture we have attained an uncorrectable probability of 10-19 (Ps=10-3). The LSI is fabricated using complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) of 2 µm rule.
