Mean energy density frequency characteristics provide the set manufacturer with a consistent and rapid method for transducer evaluation. The use of random noise excitation and narrow band analysis provides measures of frequency response, distortion, transient behavior, dynamic range and life, which would otherwise require a multiplicity of tests-both instrumented and subjective. Instrumentation will be described and some subtle results demonstrated.
