This paper is a progress report of the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI). SDMI is a forum for the worldwide recording industry and technology companies to develop an open, interoperable architecture and specification for digital music security. The goal is to meet consumer demand for convenient access to digital music, to protect artists' rights online, and to allow technology and music companies to build successful businesses.
