This paper considers the problem of describing quasi-stationary audio segments as a sum of sinusoids plus noise. The extraction of the sinusoids is presented, and the noise is described in stochastic terms. An essential problem is determining how many sinusoidal components should be taken into account. It is shown how this problem can be handled by the psychoacoustic model.
