The paper describes a generic audio codec which allows multiple, i.e., cascaded, lossy compression without loss of perceptual quality compared to the first generation of compressed audio. For this task, encoding information to all subsequent codecs in a cascade was transferred. This new method is applicable to wide range of current audio codecs as documented by the MPEG-1 implementation.
