Though only a single subwoofer is typically used in multichannel sound reproduction systems, there are reasons to consider employing two subwoofers. By including a pair of decorrelated low-frequency signals in a spatial sound presentation, it enables better control over several subjective features of the resulting spatial image. The features investigated include Apparent Source Width (ASW), Apparent Source Distance (ASD), and spaciousness.
