This paper describes ongoing work toward the application of rich 3-D sound environments for education. Prototype 3-D sound environments have been constructed by synthesizing ambisonic B-format signals using a proprietary DSP module and a PC. The paper describes these implementations and the results of detailed practical, technical, and perceptual evaluations undertaken with both blind and sighted subjects.
