Loudspeaker Impedance Analysis

Document Thumbnail

Third harmonic distortion in the current passing through a blocked short-coil, long magnetic gap type loudspeaker can be reduced by replacing the steel regions surrounding the voice coil with a polymer-based iron powder composite material. This has prompted investigation into the linear electromagnetic field distribution within the motor system, including the effects of eddy currents. The results of these investigations comprise a model for blocked coil impedance which agrees well with experimental data for at least the acoustic bandwidth of the device.
