Audio Boards and Video Synchronisation

The increasing power of general-purpose PCs makes it tempting to use them for video and audio recording and editing operations. Video and audio have traditionally been treated as separate media in the PC, but professional use requires careful synchronisation between the two. The generic PC architecture does not provide for this synchronisation and this paper examines some of the measures that are therefore required to ensure adequate performance of such systems.
