Experimental DAB transmissions started in 1994 in the Paris area in the VHF Band 1 spectrum and these transmissions have successfully demonstrated the technical performance and promoted DAB to various interested parties. This paper addresses the issues which are being considered in moving to the next stage of development, such as the type of services, particularly those exploiting the data capability of DAB, frequency allocation, transmitter coverage and public experimental services to those planned in Germany.
