Audio/video synchronisation errors cover several orders of magnitude each producing different effects and requiring different approaches to measurement. Imperceptible delays can produce disproportionate artifacts. The author, a regular member of the AES11 standards group, draws on his experience of several large systems, for which his company has designed equipment, to describe various problems.
