The design and testing of digital systems is not new. Most of the products we buy, even many audio products, have digital systems built in, whether for control and/or audio, which need to be tested at both the R&D and production stages. This paper looks at the issues surrounding the performance of digital audio systems and design criteria that are directly linked to product test strategies. Performance, design and test are very closely linked with the need to view prototype and production test methods and their requirements as part of the design process.
