The nature and the objects of the subjective assessment tests of multichannel sounds, with and/or without accompanying picture, will be classified roughly into two types. One is to assess impairments of the test objects compared to a certain reference object, another is to assess quality of the test objects compared to a reference. CCIR Task Group 10/3, in cooperation with TG10/1 and TG10/2, is now studying the impairment assessment methods of multichannel sound systems. This paper introduces some temporary results and presents some of the problems to be studied, especially on the latter quality-assessment methods of multichannel sound systems, with and/or without accompanying picture.
