Scaling the Experience

Document Thumbnail

Information on how to scale the experience of film-originated program material made in a standardized production environment into theaters and homes has previously been given in the JAES (-New Factors in Sound for Cinema and Television-). The work reported here extends these ideas further, developing the following: The role of front-channel loudspeaker directivity in the scaling function; the differences between a loudspeaker array often used in production and in simpler arrangements used at home; and the methods and function of a decorrelated surround-sound component of the sound field.
