The AES-24 Protocol: General Architecture and Philosophy

Document Thumbnail

The proposed AES-24 protocol describes a standard application protocol interface (API) for communicating with audio devices on a network. It specifies a language that potentially allows products from dissimilar vendors running on dissimilar networks to communicate smoothly, helping to bring order to a chaotic situation. The AES-24 API focuses on satisfying the requirements of audio systems control and monitoring, but it is extensible to allow for additional applications (digital audio carriage, lighting control) as they may arise. This paper covers the basic philosophy of AES-24, and the most common commands provided in its initial draft specification.
