Handling the AES Interface, Timing, Routing and Distribution

Digital audio systems using the AES/EBU interface standards have been installed throughout the world, using a variety of different techniques and equipment. This paper, drawing upon the experiences of people involved in some of the major installations in the broadcasting sector, highlights the requirements to be observed when designing such systems. The choices of routing and distribution technology are discussed, together with some aspects of interfacing difficulties that have been experienced.
