Digital Transmission via PTT Networks

This paper covers the history of the use of digital circuits by the BBC World Service for programme purposes. It is hoped that, by relating the experiences of the BBC World Service, others may avoid some of the problems of -new technology-. The first 64 kbs digital circuit was installed in 1986 and was used to feed a programme to Australia. Others, to other parts of the world have followed. Development in digital multiplexers are envisaged that will open up opportunities to provided the news reporter with new -tools of the trade-.
