High Speed Networking for Professional Digital Audio

Document Thumbnail

Wide-scale adoption of digital audio workstations has been impeded by the difficulty of moving audio data between workstations. Removable media offer a partial solution to this problem but have drawbacks in terms of economics, speed and convenience. Data communication networks provide a more promising alternative, although the requirements for an effective audio workstation network are quite daunting. We discuss several issues in digital audio networking and conclude that using available technology one can construct a network suitable for professional digital audio settings.
