The collections and services of the British Library National Sound Archive (NSA) are surveyed and the primary role of service development in the NSA's forward plan is indicated. The collaboration of the NSA in an EC-funded Project to develop a prototype system for remote access to sound achrives from libraries is described and the paper concludes with a brief reference to future developments.
