Auditory Modelling Related to the Bit Budget

Document Thumbnail

This paper looks at the ways in which auditory modeling can help us make more informed decisions in the design of digital channels. In such channels, the -bit-budget- essentially focuses on linearity and dynamic range. Using auditory models and psychoacoustic concepts, the author explores the perceptual limits of harmonic and intermodulation distortion, of quantisation effects, of jitter and the audibility of the noise in dithered channels.
