Digital Audio Applications in Radio Broadcasting

Document Thumbnail

In addition to improved audio quality, digital audio systems can provide several other enhancements that are of specific value to the radio broadcaster. These include playback speed accuracy, stereo phase stability, fast random access, high storage densities, improved portability, and greater cost-effectiveness relative to broadcast-quality analog systems. Still to be tackled, however, are some problems in production, editing and archival life. Meanwhile, the promise of digital RF modulation looms large on the horizon. In this context, an overview of the current and emerging applications of digital audio equipment and technique in radio broadcasting is presented.
