Automation and Control of EQ, Gain and Panning via Segment Based Processing in SoundStation DSP Systems

Document Thumbnail

In SoundStation digital audio editing and production systems, an audio Segment is defined as a piece of mono or multichannel audio of any length. Segment Based Processing allows an editor to alter instantaneously the EQ, gain, or panning of any sound effect, dialog or music segment independently, digitally and in real time on any channel of the SoundStation DSP system. More importantly, all Segment settings are attached to the edited Segments and stay with them as they are moved, copied, slipped, backed up or restored, thus providing flexible, repeatable automation and unprecedented precision. This approach reduces the need for extra tracks on tape recorders, extra mixing desk channels and also reduces unnecessary re-recording and rewind time. EQ processing on each Segment is through a 4-band parametric equalizer and all channels of stereo and multichannel segments are set and EQ'd simultaneously.
