Channel Status Implementation

Document Thumbnail

The channel status was undoubtedly among the functions complex to implement when the AES/EBU interface was standardized. Thus its features have seldom been fully implemented in the equipment and systems developed later on. However, the information carried by those channels may be very useful, particularly for check-up and monitoring needs in large systems. On the other hand, technical solutions do exist now in order to ease flexible and open implementations. This is why the AES/EBU to analogue interface equipment described here were devised not only as analogue<->digital converters, but also as powerful tools for the handling and monitoring of the channel status information. We describe here some applications which have been or that could be implemented, but the versatile architecture adopted makes provision for other functions not thought about yet.
