Sound Transmission Systems for Direct Broadcasting Satellites: PCM Sound Broadcasting in Direct Broadcasting Satellite

Document Thumbnail

A PCM sound transmission system for television broadcasting via satellite has been developed. A digitally-modulated sub-carrier is used for the transmission of sound and data signals. This system provides four high-quality 14/10 bit near-instantaneous companding sound signals sampled at 32 kHz or two high-quality 16 bit linear-coded sound signals sampled at 48 kHz. Data service such as a facsimile service is also available.: Furthermore, the sound reception quality is superior to the corresponding picture quality, a grade of at least 1.5 can be obtained on the five-grade picture evaluation scale.
