The digital Filter CMOS LSI, SM5800, has been developed, which can be used for a Compact Disc (CD) player. This LSI's system operates as a 121st order FIR digital filter in which the signal is oversampled 2 times. This LSI realizes a linear phase lowpass filter with such high performance that the ripple below 20KHz is within +-0.001dB and the attenuation above 24.7KHz is more than 90dB. This filter has 18-bit coefficients and satisfies the -1st Nyquist Criterion-. A 2.5 micron rule molybdenum (Mo) gate CMOS process is employed to fabricate this LSI. Using this process, SM5800 achieves its high operational speed. This paper describes the function, characteristics and architecture of SM5800.
