A New Digital Audio Data Transmission System for CATV Networks

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes a large-capacity digital audio transmission system designed to be co-located with TV channels in a CATV network. The system consists of a transmitter and a system-control computer, both of which are connected to the head end and then to home receivers. Data is transmitted at approximately 7.4 Mbits/sec using a bandwidth of 6MHz, the equal of the bandwidth of a single TV channel. This means that, without the need for modification, the system can be introduced into existing CATV networks for simultaneous broadcasting of four ultra-high-fidelity stereo audio programs with quality equivalent to that of compact discs.
