A novel wave-based virtual acoustics and spatial audio framework

Document Thumbnail

We present a novel virtual acoustics simulation and spatial audio rendering framework, which is based on utilizing a wave-based acoustic simulation paradigm. The simulation takes place in the time domain and yields spatial impulse responses, which are then used in real-time virtual reality spatial audio rendering. We present various objective benchmarks on simulation accuracy and computational performance. The analysis reveals that the framework is capable of efficiently simulating large scale virtual acoustics problems in complex domains with good accuracy, even in challenging cases, such as when diffraction is prominent.
