We present a test setup for qualitative results of a study where we explored the performance, safety, and user experience of a 3D audio-guided pedestrian navigation system. Our test setup consists of a mobile platform, where the navigation software and 3D audio processing is done, and an augmented reality headset, with which virtual audio can be overlaid on top of the real sound environment around the user. We concluded that with such a navigation system, pedestrians can navigate to their destination more safely and fluently. At the same time, they are able to focus their attention also to other hearing and listening tasks, such as listening to music from the device, or speech of an accompanying person.
