A Differentiable Approximation to Speech Intelligibility Index with Applications to Listening Enhancement

Document Thumbnail

The Speech Intelligibility Index is an established objective measure for intelligibility of speech in noise. It is often used as an objective function for iterative optimisation in speech enhancement algorithms. We derive an estimate for the Speech Intelligibility Index. This estimate is continuous and differentiable, which allows for more efficient optimisation procedures. The use of the formula is demonstrated with an application to near-end speech enhancement.
