What began as an integration exercise to meet the space, cost and power savings required by early music phones is now evolving into what can almost be regarded as a processing core in its own right. Sitting alongside other task-optimized cores such as modems, graphics cores and more generic application processors the audio hub is now finding applications outside the mobile phone market.
