AIX Records records and releases high-resolution, surround music tracks on optical discs and through online delivery. Each project contains at least two independent 5.1 surround mixes designated as “Stage” and “Audience.” In order to ensure flexibility at all stages of the production and to maximize the fidelity of the resultant tracks, multiple stereo pairs of microphones are employed, all musicians are present in a reverberant space at the time of the recording, no post production processing is used and as many as 36 tracks are captured. The present investigation explains the methodologies employed during the recording and mix down phases of a typical production.
