Class D power amplifiers are becoming more popular because multichannel designs, combined with small form factors, have become the norm. This paper describes the basic building blocks of an all-digital class D amplifier. Techniques critical to achieving good performance are discussed in more detail. Recent advances in feedback and feed-forward techniques have enabled both low-cost designs and high performance designs, based on the same controller IC. Some example applications are discussed.
