Audio Coding for Future Entertainment Formats

Document Thumbnail

Delivery of surround sound continues to evolve with shifting aesthetic goals and technological infrastructure advances. Higher computing power in digital signal processors allows more complex algorithms that reach higher coding efficiencies, while higher density optical media allow for expanded channels and higher bitrates for audio. The result is a landscape that benefits from codecs operating at both ends of the bit rate continuum. This paper describes how audio codecs have adapted to these new conditions.
