This paper explores the current state of a number of hi-fi components, both source and amplification, and examines how these will need to change in order to connect seamlessly to the wide variety of new sources emerging in the connected home. Some consideration of the requirements to support the mix of video standards is also given as this is now increasingly associated with audio. Strategies for distribution are addressed. Finally some real world examples of newer products, including an upcoming audio server, are examined.
