3DTel—A Spatial Audio Teleconferencing System

Document Thumbnail

"Spatial audio increases the quality of teleconferencing. Multiple talkers can be separated by taking advantage of the Cocktail-Party Effect and participants can be identified by their locations in a virtual acoustic environment. In this paper, we present the first public available open source spatial teleconferencing application which we call 3DTel. We use this implementation to see to what extend spatial audio increases the latency and computational complexity of teleconferencing scenarios and present human listening-only tests evaluating the influence of different attributes of the virtual conference room on localization performance and perceived speech quality. Index Terms—3D telephony, teleconferencing, spatial audio, quality of experience, performance measurement, open source"
