To study the perceptual validity of binaural recordings from stereo mobile device loudspeakers, a twofold experiment was performed using a descriptive analysis approach. Sixteen listeners developed their own set of attributes to describe nine real devices and the associated binaural recordings replayed over headphones for three musical items. The results show that the perceptual characteristics of the systems tested in these two reproduction modes are comparable.
