Assessor Selection and Behavior in Individual Vocabulary Profiling of Concert Hall Acoustics

Document Thumbnail

A descriptive analysis of concert hall acoustics was implemented with an individual vocabulary profiling method. The assessors were selected with a screening procedure consisting of tests for discriminative as well as descriptive skills. The individual vocabulary profiling consisted of each assessor developing his or her own set of attributes for a comparative evaluation of stimuli. The stimuli were produced using a loudspeaker orchestra and 3-D recording and reproduction techniques. The descriptive analysis method and the assessor selection procedure are described in detail. Multidimensionality of the elicited attributes and individual behavior of the assessors were analyzed with principal component analysis. Some results are presented and the suitability of a direct elicitation of attributes for assessing concert hall acoustics is discussed.
