Room correction systems are often found to provide a timbre, which is described as artificial or unnatural. This paper presents a new approach to this problem, which is based on finding that part of the influence of a listening room that is natural to the human ear and should not be removed by a room correction system. More specifically, a smooth increase of level towards lower frequencies, also referred to as room gain, must be preserved after applying a room correction system. The dependence of room gain on both loudspeaker position in two different rooms and acoustical absorption was examined.
