Keeping It Simple; BWF and AES31

Document Thumbnail

The Broadcast Wave Format - BWF - is an international recommendation for electronic file interchange of audio material. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) initially developed the BWF as a simple but extensible format for use between their radio members. This article gives the reasons why this was considered a Good Thing, describes the core format, and gives an idea of the extensibility of the process to meet industry requirements via the AES31 Standard. The hazards of success are also described, as the wider world of metadata and video require integration with the BWF.
